If your baby is born in the U.S. between 1/1/2025 and 12/31/2028, you can receive a $1,000 federal investment seed contribution from the government.
Step 1: Check Eligibility
The child must be a U.S. citizen.
The child must have a valid Social Security Number (SSN).
The child must be born between January 1, 2025, and December 31, 2028.
Step 2: Submit IRS Form 4547
You must actively request the funds by filing Form 4547. You have two ways to do this:
Option A (Online – Fastest): Go to the IRS Form 4547 Page, log in via ID.me, and complete the digital application. Crucial Note: In Part III, you must check the box next to your child’s name to explicitly claim the $1,000 Treasury deposit.
Option B (By Mail): Download, print, and fill out Parts I, II, and IV of the paper form, making sure to check the $1,000 pilot program box in Part III. Mail it to your state’s standard IRS center (for tax returns “not enclosing a payment”).
For California Residents: Department of the Treasury, Internal Revenue Service, Fresno, CA 93888-0002.
Step 3: Receive Treasury Notification & Activate Account
Once the IRS processes the form, you will receive an official confirmation email from no-reply@TrumpAccounts.Treasury.gov or via physical mail with setup steps.
Follow the link to TrumpAccounts.gov (or use the official mobile app). Sign up using the exact same email address you used on your IRS form, complete the identity verification, and activate the portfolio.
Step 4: Verification and Funding
The Treasury Department will verify the active status of the account with the trustee.
Once approved, the $1,000 seed money is deposited directly into the child’s account by the U.S. Treasury.
The funds are automatically invested in a low-cost, federally mandated broad U.S. equity index fund (like an S&P 500 tracker) where they grow tax-deferred until the child turns 18 years old.
